Joanne McCartney, London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, today welcomed the introduction of Oyster Pay-As-You-Go on the rail network from 2 January 2010.

Joanne McCartney, London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, said: “While it is disappointing that the Mayor was unable to keep to the start date of the Summer of 2009 as he originally promised, I am glad that the scheme is finally going ahead following a long campaign, by myself & former Mayor Livingstone to encourage the train companies to allow Oyster on their routes”

Former Mayor Ken Livingstone began the process of introducing PAYG Oyster readers to mainline stations in November 2007. PAYG was introduced to London Overground services, London Midland services between Watford Junction and Euston and Southern services between Watford Junction and Clapham Junction and all stations in between. In January 2008 PAYG was extended to London stations served by Chiltern, c2c and Hackney area services of ‘one’.

Joanne McCartney, London Assembly Member for Enfield and Haringey, said: “Many of my constituents in Enfield & Haringey rely on the train as their main means of travelling to work. Not having PAYG has left them at a disadvantage. I am disappointed, however, that there does not appear to be an agreement on integrated pricing. It leaves many constituents at a big disadvantage to those Londoners who have a tube station on their doorstep.”
