Queen Mary, University of London has developed an outstanding reputation nationally and internationally for the excellence of its research and teaching in Humanities and Social Sciences. The Humanities and Social Science Graduate School has over 600 students pursuing taught Masters and doctoral research degrees.

The School of History wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Modern European History (post 1800) for a fixed term period of 3 years. This post is funded by the Leverhulme Trust to replace Professor Julian Jackson who has been awarded a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship.

Preference will be given to a candidate working in the field of French history. The successful candidate will be expected to have a good research profile and to have previous teaching experience. The postholder will be given the opportunity to develop their own courses but will also be required to teach on existing courses in the School which may include a Special Subject on France 1934-1944. Applicants will be expected to contribute to the full range of the school’s activities.

The post is full time, fixed term with a salary of £37,819 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
