LettersToTheEditor

Dear Editor

London’s bus passengers are set to pay more for less under plans announced by TfL this week.

Boris Johnson’s TfL business plan for the next nine years says that bus journeys across London will be cut by 26 million kilometres and the level of funding for the bus service will fall 37%. This could mean fewer buses running on local routes, longer waits at bus stops and more crowded buses. A further blow is the news that fares are going to rise above inflation every year – on top of the 20% rises for bus passengers announced last week.

We have spent years building up London’s bus services, and this has barely kept up with demands. I am therefore keen to monitor any deterioration in local services and would like to hear how the Mayor’s approach to London’s transport is impacting on passengers and their journeys. While I get regular updates at City Hall, I am therefore keen to hear about your local experiences. Anyone who notices changes or cuts on their buses can write to me at City Hall, The Queen’s Walk, London, SE1 2AA, call 020 7983 4356 or email john.biggs@london.gov.uk My job is to speak up for my constituents and make the case for East London and with your help I can do that better still.

Yours sincerely
